Humming Bird Coin Pendant
Our hummingbird pendant has an old family story behind it.... a while back we discovered some really cool sketches and illustrations while going through my grandparents attic. There were letters and drawings loose in an old natural history book with information all about hummingbirds. It had been the correspondence between my grandfather and Sir David Attenborough back in the 60s when my grandparents lived on a volcanic island in the equatorial waters of the south Atlantic ocean. They have talked of introducing a number of new species onto the island and the hummingbird had been one of them. The hummingbird has such a beautiful silhouette and holds such lovely symbolism that we though it would be a great pendent to showcase this natural beauty.
Hummingbirds have a long history of folklore and symbolism in native cultures. The Aztecs saw them as messengers between them and their ancestors or the gods. In Native American culture, hummingbirds are seen as healers and bringers of love, good luck, and joy.
In Central America, they are a sign of love and will bring love to the person who spots them. The hummingbird generally symbolises joy and playfulness, as well as adaptability.
